SHOHAKU OKUMURA was ordained a Soto Zen priest by Kosho Uchiyama Roshi in 1970. He trained at Antaiji in Kyoto, and continued his practice at Pioneer Valley Zendo in Massachusetts from 1975 to 1981. Since 2003 he has been the head teacher of Sanshin Zen Community, a center for translation, study, and Uchiyama Roshi-style practice, in Bloomington, Indiana. He is Director of Soto Zen Buddhism International Center, serving part-time since founding Sanshinji. He has taught at Kyoto Soto Zen Center and Minnesota Zen Meditation Center, and continues to travel and teach internationally. He has translated many works of Dogen, and Uchiyama Roshi. |

Shohaku Okumura will be leading a Genzo-e sesshin at Dharma Field, September 15–19.
The building will be closed Wednesday through Saturday during this time,
except for talks at 9:15 and 3:10, which are open to the public for a $15 per talk fee.
Sunday, September 19, there will be a public Dharma talk by Shohaku Okumura.
