A student of the Way asked Joshu, “Does a dog have Buddha Nature or not?”
Joshu answered, “Mu!”
Our ordinary way is to strive for an explanation for who we are and the way things are. Koans reveal this dependency and point to the stability and freedom of not knowing. In this class we will explore koans with help from the writings of John Tarrant. His book Bring Me the Rhinoceros will inform our weekly assignments. Reflection in and outside of class will be encouraged.
